John Ang who was born in Chicago grew up in Singapore. After serving NS he returned to the US and completed his MA in art history at the University of Michigan. In 1990 he established an art gallery in Taipei and under its auspices, lectured, advised and sourced for many major museums in USA, Taiwan, Singapore, China and Australia. John has also written many articles on Asian Art and was the pioneering researcher of regional styles of Chinese furniture. He is the author of the book, 'The Beauty Of Huanghuali Furniture.' His latest project is researching and collecting textiles of the Malay world. His presentation will discuss his adventures and discoveries through collecting these textiles, many of which have never been published or shown in museums before. John hopes his presentation can generate more interest in this under researched area and through the increased understanding and appreciation of these textiles and their close connections he aims to inspire a greater bond among countries of Southeast Asia.
